TCC’s Jeanne Natali named YWCA Woman of Distinction

Natali has more than 30 years of experience in global and intercultural learning. She joined TCC in the mid-1990s to establish the English as a Second Language/International Student Center to provide educational opportunities for students with limited English language skills and to assist both immigrant and nonimmigrant students with the transition into higher education.

In 1999, the scope of Natali’s responsibilities broadened to include International Programs, and she worked to develop exchange opportunities for TCC faculty and students.  At that time, the The American Council on Education recognized the Office of International Programs as a Promising Practices Program.

As director of the college’s Office for Intercultural Learning, Natali works to establish an inclusive learning environment that connects intercultural learning initiatives to critical academic outcomes. In this capacity, she aligned the Women’s Center with this academic initiative. Since its inception, the Women’s Center has grown from a one-person office to a vital part of student services on all four of TCC’s campuses

Natali currently serves on the boards of the Norfolk Sister Cities Association and the Tidewater chapter of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. She is a past board member of The Meadowbrook School for International Studies and past chair of the American Council on Education’s Internationalization Collaborative.

In addition to her work at TCC, Natali holds an adjunct teaching appointment at Old Dominion University, and served as a guest lecturer at Hong Duc University in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, from 1999-2001 and a consulting team member of the Thanh Hoa Province Thanh Hoa Community College Project.

Natali holds a bachelor’s in English from California University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in English from Old Dominion University. She earned a doctorate in urban services with a concentration in urban higher education, also from Old Dominion.
