TCC’s Job Skills Training Program receives national recognition

Tidewater Community College’s Job Skills Training Program has been selected to receive a 2012 Exemplary Program Award from the National Council for Continuing Education & Training (NCCET).

The Job Skills Training Program (JSTP) is a comprehensive approach to job skills training and job placement for individuals with barriers to employment. Under the direction of Vice President of Workforce Solutions Theresa Bryant, the JSTP partners with social service and community agencies, the business community and industry leaders to provide counseling, internships, workforce readiness training and job follow-up.

The NCCET’s Exemplary Program Award recognizes sustainable, innovative and replicable programs that impact a college’s community. TCC has been invited to receive its award at the NCCET’s leadership conference on Oct. 13-16 in Reno, Nev.

“I want to congratulate Tidewater Community College’s Workforce Solutions division for delivering learning opportunities that empower students toward self-sufficiency, help to remove barriers that may hinder employment and provide a viable alternative labor force for the variety of industries in the Norfolk region,” said Darcy McGrath, immediate past president for the National Council for Continuing Education & Training. “Hearing from our Exemplary Program awardees will help many of our member institutions learn about the innovative practices at Tidewater Community College.”
