TCC’s Rubin is automotive instructor of the year

Beno Rubin, director of the Tidewater Community College Regional Automotive Center, has been named instructor of the year by two national automotive education and customer service organizations.

The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) selected Rubin as the Byrl Shoemaker/ASE Industry Education Alliance Instructor of the Year.

NATEF created the Shoemaker Award, presented annually, to honor an individual or organization for extraordinary contributions and dedication to excellence in automotive education.

“We’re proud of Beno’s work and accomplishments and the role he has played in building TCC’s Regional Automotive Center into a unique community asset,” said Lisa Rhine, provost of the Chesapeake Campus. The center is located in the Oakbrooke Business and Technology Center in Chesapeake, and is affiliated with TCC’s Chesapeake Campus.

Rubin was selected from among candidates across the nation. NATEF presented the award Nov. 19 at the annual ASE Technician Awards Banquet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
