Tidewater Community College offers free tax preparation for qualified taxpayers

TCC students enrolled in Principles of Federal Taxation who have passed an IRS-certified exam prepare tax returns under faculty supervision as part of the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Assistance Program (VITA). The programs serves those whose income levels are in the mid-$70,000s or lower. All TCC-assisted tax returns will be reviewed and filed electronically, free of charge.

Tax help is available at the following times and locations on the Virginia Beach Campus:

Tuesdays starting Feb. 24 through March 24 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 214 (closed March 10 for spring break).

Wednesdays starting Feb. 18 through March 25 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 243 (closed March 11 for spring break).

A valid picture ID, Social Security card, 2013 tax return and 2014 tax documents are needed for service. No appointments are necessary. Help is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A partial listing of items outside the scope of VITA (and therefore not eligible for free tax assistance) includes noncash donations greater than $500, depreciation calculations, income from rental property, royalties, partnerships, estates, trusts, farm income, household employers, tax on a child’s investment income and foreign tax credit using Form 1116.
