U.S. Representative Rigell to speak at TCC graduation

Scott Rigell, United States Representative for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, will be the keynote speaker for Tidewater Community College’s 55th commencement at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

More than 2,000 TCC students will earn associate degrees or certificates that evening. It will be the first fall commencement for Edna Baehre-Kolovani, who became TCC’s fifth president in July.

Rigell was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in November 2010. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Science, Space and Technology. Rigell also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, rising to the rank of sergeant before an honorable discharge after six years.

Prior to his election to Congress, Rigell was a successful small business owner and community leader in Virginia Beach. He and his wife, Teri, own several automobile dealerships in Hampton Roads. Rigell was recently inducted into the Hampton Roads Business Hall of Fame.

Rigell earned his master’s in business administration from Regent University and holds a bachelor’s from Mercer University. In 2010, the Regent School of Global Leadership & Entrepreneurship named Rigell its “Alumnus of the Year.”

The Rigells are parents to four grown children and two grandchildren.

Tammy Forbes Gül will be the student speaker at the TCC graduation ceremony. The Virginia Beach resident will graduate with a 4.0 grade-point average and an Associate of Science in Science with plans to transfer to Regent University in January.
