Veterans Mentor Program matching up students with professionals

Tidewater Community College’s Center for Military and Veterans Education will introduce its Veterans Mentor Program at an information session on Feb. 17 at 12:30 p.m. at the Joint-Use Library on the Virginia Beach Campus.

The event will be held in Room L-102 of the library. Mentorships are open to all TCC students.

The mission of the new program is to develop and support one-on-one mentoring relationships between student veterans and professionals who have successfully transitioned from military to civilian life.

Mentees will gain academic and professional goal-setting strategies, specialized career guidance and networking opportunities.

Interested students should RSVP for the information session here. Students interested in being mentored should fill out this online form.

The mentoring project is part of a $3.4 million grant awarded to the Virginia Community College System by the U.S. Department of Labor. In addition to TCC, the VCCS will work with four other community colleges to complete both the mentoring initiative and a Credit for Prior Learning initiative that will develop a consistent learning and approval policy for the state’s community colleges to award credit for military training and expertise.
