Some students will need to complete placement testing with the Virginia Placement Test to determine their readiness for dual enrollment course work, apprenticeships, and certain selective admissions programs.
These are not admission tests. They evaluate your readiness. However, you don’t want to be placed in a course lower than your actual skill level – so it’s important you take testing seriously.
Placement tests are free, and you can take them on any TCC campus.
Planning your tests
Tests generally take between 3-4 hours. You may not start an exam 3 hours or less before the center closes. Make sure you bring a photo ID and your student ID number with you when you take the test!
Taking your tests
We offer dedicated testing centers on each of our four campuses where you can take your placement tests.
After you’ve taken the placement tests
You will be ready to meet with an academic advisor! Depending on your chosen program of study, your academic advisor will help you select the appropriate courses.
